“Space, Feminism and Resistance”

Moving thru futureS

The 8th edition of the BIGSAS Festival of African and African-diasporic literature will be dedicated to the concept of space. In terms of geopolitics, it will feature Nigeria, Kenya, Southern Africa and African diasporas in Europe. Moreover, it will address the MENA region as cultural memory of a longstanding Mediterranean identity that transgresses the Europe-Africa-divide.
Intersecting these geopolitical spaces with space as a social category, the festival will engage with resistance in general and feminism and anti-Apartheid, paying particular tribute to Nelson Mandela given the 100th birthday of his anniversary on July 18th. Moreover, the festival will celebrate street art as edutainment that keeps appropriating and rethinking public spaces as well as Esther Dischereit’s poEthic subversion of the NSU-mord series (2000-2006).
